Semi-supervised Research Training

Our semi-supervised research training provides a holistic view of the research landscape, focusing on enhancing researcher skills.

Through practical, hands-on exercises, this program aims to boost the ability to critically evaluate scientific articles independently.

By the end, participants will have the necessary mindset and proficiency to navigate through research publications effectively.

A 20+ hour course taught by
Mohammad Sorowar Hossain, Ph.D.
, and
Enayetur Raheem, Ph.D.

Step 1: Learn Research Methodology Fundamentals

You will watch pre-recorded video lectures by the instructors. It is vital to grasp the basics of research methodology, which involves developing a research idea, drafting, defining, and refining request questions. Key fundamentals to learn include research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis.

Step 2: Develop a Study Plan

Use our tested and proven template to create an effective study plan. The study plan is the first step in developing the study protocol, which will then be expanded into a manuscript.

Step 3: Develop Manuscript under Supervision

Transform ideas and research into a coherent document. The supervisor provides guidance, feedback, and support to meet standards. Regular communication is crucial to address concerns and questions. Diligently following this step refines and polishes the manuscript.

Step 4: Become a BRF Research Intern

As a BRF Research Intern, you will gain practical experience, work with seasoned researchers, add value to ongoing projects, and improve data analysis, literature review, and project management skills. This role offers a valuable understanding of the research journey and can establish a solid groundwork for a research profession. Duties may involve conducting studies, assessing data, creating reports, and showcasing discoveries. This opportunity is essential for individuals pursuing a career in research or related areas.

Step 5: Graduate to BRF Research Assistant

Becoming a BRF Research Assistant is a significant achievement in your academic/professional journey. Work closely with experienced researchers to delve deeper into your interests and contribute to cutting-edge projects. This role will help you gain valuable skills and meaningful contributions to the research community.

STEP 6: Become an Independent Researcher

As an independent researcher, you can choose your research topics, design studies, collect and analyze data, and draw conclusions. To become independent, develop a clear research question, familiarize with relevant literature and methods, establish a network, attend conferences, and manage time. It's a fulfilling experience, allowing you to contribute to your field and establish yourself as a respected researcher

Course Details

Semi-supervised research Training provides a 360-degree view of the research landscape. Our goal is to help you develop your researcher self, not merely provide training to analyze data. Our approach is drawn from decades of experience tackling untapped and neglected real-life problems.

This training will help build your confidence in independently reading and critiquing articles published in scientific journals. We aim to shape the thought process and guide the learners in developing their research mindset, which is essential to becoming a successful researcher.

What you will learn

After completing the course requirements, you would learn

  • the research process
  • how to develop a research idea into a research question
  • how to formulate a research question How to do a literature survey
  • basics of research proposal writing
  • ethics of field and lab research
  • common statistical issues in research (study design, sampling and hypothesis testing)
  • how research skills are useful for non-academic purposes
  • lifetime skills for research and non-research purposes (referencing, documentation, time management, collaborative writing and smart note taking)

Who this course is for

This course is most suitable for those passionate about research and want to learn how to conduct a research from idea generation to publication--in step-by-step

Or someone aiming to become an independent researcher in biomedical, public health, or other fields.

  • If you have no research experience but want to learn the end-to-end research process– from idea generation to publication– then this course is a great one to start with
  • If you have some experience but you are not confident enough to start your independent research journey, then this course will be the stepping stone for our supervised research internship (SRI)
  • If you are an undergraduate student and planning to conduct your first research project, this course will adequately prepare you to step into your undergraduate thesis/project or major paper

What this course is NOT about

Please note-

  • This foundation course will cover some basic statistical principles. But this course is not meant to learn advanced statistical techniques, data management or analysis
  • The foundation course will introduce data collection strategies and demonstrate some open source and commercial software.
  • This course is not designed for one-on-one mentorship. However, mentors will be available during office hours where you will have opportunity to discuss your problem.
